Arrival in Beijing airport
We flew over the Arctic Circle. I heard (while half asleep) someone say that we were over Siberia. When it got light outside, I could see the desolate landscape of Outer Mongolia.

Lunch in one woman's home in the hutong. She was up since 5:00 AM cooking. She taught us how to make Chinese dumplings! It was our best meal in China.

Bell Tower. Most cities have a bell tower and a drum tower. They only ring the bell on Chinese New Year now since it is so deafening. It can be heard miles away. |
