There was a long delay leaving Luoyang as Mark and "Florence" wrestled with the hotel to find Eliot's lost underwear. Finally, it showed up!

On way back to airport, there was much talk of the Three Gorges Dam to be completed in 2008.  Drowning farmland, bringing electricity to starving people...a marked contrast between coastal areas and Luoyang/Kaifeng…much more rural underdeveloped.  They need the flood control and the hydro-power, but at the cost of a lot of prime farmland that they also need to feed all these people.
